What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a revolutionary GLP-1 receptor agonist that was originally developed for patients with Type 2 diabetes. When providers and pharmaceutical developers noticed how much weight their patients were loosing, they began to study semaglutide exclusively for weight loss. A series of clinical trials known as the STEP clinical trials demonstrated that almost 90% of patients lost 5% or more of their body weight. There is no other weight loss drug on the market that compares. In June of 2022, the FDA approved semaglutide for weight loss. Semaglutide increases insulin production, decreases glucagon synthesis, delays gastric emptying and suppresses hunger. It signals your brain that you are full, so you can loose weight without feeling like you are depriving yourself.

What to Expect At your First Consultation

If you are struggling with weight loss, we will have a consultation to speak with you about your medical/surgical history. We will also check recent labs (and/or request for additional labs), discuss goals and concerns, and see if Semaglutide is a good choice for you. If you have recent lab work within the last year, please bring this with you at the time of your appointment. We may ask that you get updated labs before starting the program. We will write orders for you to give to the laboratory of your choice. If you do not have insurance, we are able to set you up with labs with Quest Diagnostics at a very reasonable cost ($76). Please let us know at the time of your consultation, so that we can accommodate you. After your initial consultation, we will discuss the program and its’ requirements. Semaglutide is a wonderful medication that can help you reach your desired goals, but we would like to make sure you are changing your habits as well. This will not only lead to successful outcomes while you are on the medication, but will follow you when you are at your goal weight and decide to decrease your dose and eventually cease taking Semaglutide.  We will discuss dietary and exercise habits and ways to make small, meaningful changes over time. We will keep your lifestyle in mind and discuss everything. We are in this TOGETHER.

Weekly Check-Ins

You will come into the Medical Spa once weekly for your semaglutide injections. There will be monthly weigh-ins and Vital Signs checks, and you will be followed closely by a Nurse Practitioner that can help control any side effects you may experience. Your semaglutide dose regimen will be customized based on your side effects as well as protocol.
